- The first scenario is if you get the wrong system update, and this scenario is very unlikely as most companies roll out updates systematically and they pass through a lot of checks and balances, which means that you will mostly get the right system updates without any major bugs.
- The second and most likely scenario is that if you mess up with the core software of the smartphone by installing a custom ROM. As it’s a very complicated process, a lot of things can go wrong, and if anything goes wrong, you will lose the IMEI number of your device along with the official warranty.

If you haven’t tempered with the core software of your smartphone and you are facing this issue due to the wrong software update, you can contact the nearest repair center of your smartphone’s manufacturer and get their help. They will most likely restore the software, and you will get your IMEI Back.
Now, if you tried to root your device, it means that your warranty is void, and you can’t contact your smartphone manufacturer as they might report you for tempering with an IMEI number. In this case, you can try the available solutions to fix the issue.
For example, this issue is very common with devices that have MTK processors, and there are apps that can help you fix this issue. So, if you have a Smartphone with an MTK processor, you can use the following method.
- Download MTK Engineering Mode App from the Internet. Please note that this method will only work on rooted devices with MTK Processor.
- Once the app is downloaded, open it and go to MTK Settings.
- Now find Connectivity and tap it.
- Tap CDS Information and go to Radio Information.
- Now select Phone 1 and type “AT+EMGR=1,7,{Insert your IMEI Number}
- Similarly, if you have a dual SIM Smartphone, enter the same command with a second IMEI Number.
- Now wait, and once it’s done, you will see that IMEI is back, and your device will be connected to the Network.
- That’s it.
Does IMEI Change After A Factory Reset?
IMEI is embedded into the core software of your smartphone, and it doesn’t change when you factory reset your smartphone.

If you haven’t tempered with your IMEI number but still you are unable to connect with your Network carrier, then it could be due to the fact that someone else is using your IMEI Number.
If someone has cloned your IMEI and you both try to connect with Network at the same time, the Network will block both users, and they won’t be able to access Network.
