Can A Smartwatch Tell Your Temperature? Which One Can?

Smartwatches have come a long way since their inception, and now they are better than ever. From accelerometer to GPS, smartwatches are equipped with the sensors and technologies which help them to accurately track your activities. But, today’s question is: Can a smartwatch tell your Temperature? Let’s find out.

Considering the Covid19, the demand for smartwatches being able to tell Temperature is on the rise. That’s why many companies are working on adding this feature to their smartwatches. However, at the time of writing this guide, only Fitbit Sense comes with the dedicated sensor to detect the body temperature. Let’s take a closer look at how Fitbit sense does it.

Can a Smartwatch tell you Your Temperature?

At the time of writing this guide, The new Fitbit Sense is the only watch that comes with the dedicated sensor that can help you detects your body temperature. I have also found a relatively less popular smartwatch, Ticwris GTS, which also claims to have a dedicated body temperature sensor, and many users also claimed that the watch can successfully measure the body temperature.

Also, another option for a small fitness tracker that can measure your temperature is the Oura ring.

The Oura ring as its name suggests is a ring that serves as a fitness and sleep tracker and it can also measure your Temperature – you can read here on Oura’s site more about it.

Can Fitbit Track Body Temperature?

Which Fitbit is Accurate for Running

Yes, Fitbit has recently launched its new smartwatch “Fitbit Sense” that comes with the dedicated sensor for tracking the body temperature. The watch uses state of the art Electrodermal Activity (EDA) Sensor, which detects the temperature changes on your body.

The main purpose of this sensor is to help the Fitbit Sense with stress detection, which is a very major issue these days, and the watch uses this sensor to ensure that it accurately detects it.

The human body is a very complex system, and the body continuously sends various signals to the mind to make it aware of the changes in the body. Electrodermal Activity or EDA is basically the characteristic of the human body, which causes the variation in electrical potential between the various parts of the skin.

Now EDA Sensor is mainly there to detect these changes and report them correctly to the watch so that it could detect the stress. In this process, the sensor also detects the temperature changes as well and reports it to the watch.

As this sensor is still relatively newer and for the time being, it only shows the variation in your body temperature. Also, you can only see it on the Fitbit app. I’m also pretty sure that with time, the Fitbit app will add more functions to allow the watch to offer much more than just showing temperature variation. But, for the time being, it’s a great feature, and it’s only available in a handful of smartwatches.

Can Apple Watch tell your Temperature?

apple watch track my running

Detecting the body temperature is no easy task, and it requires dedicated sensors for detecting Temperature. At the time of writing this guide, the Apple watch cannot natively detect the change in body temperature.

I also came across an app on the App Store, which is named “Thermowatch+,” and many people think that you can use it to check the Temperature with your Apple watch.

It’s not possible because the apple watch doesn’t have the sensors. Thermowatch+ is only there for logging purposes which means that you can manually input your body temperature, and the app will show you the graph based on the input values.

Can Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 tell your Temperature?

Samsung Galaxy Watch

Galaxy Watch 3 is a very capable smartwatch, and it comes with tons of great sensors, but the watch doesn’t come with any sensor that can detect the change in body temperature.

Also, the watch doesn’t have the hardware capability to detect the temperature change as well. Galaxy watch 3 cannot tell your Temperature, but I hope that the next version might come with the dedicated feature as other major companies are already doing it.

Can I tell my body temperature using Ticwris GTS?

Ticwris GTS is a relatively less popular smartwatch that claims to detect the body temperature in real-time. For this purpose, the watch uses the temperature monitoring device (thermistor). I did some quick research on the thermistor and found that it’s the type of resistor that can detect the change in Temperature.

It’s not as sophisticated as the Electrodermal Activity (EDA) sensor, but it can get the job done. The sensor changes its physical resistance when it’s exposed to changes in Temperature, and in this way, the sensor knows that the Temperature has changed.

I also checked the reviews of Ticwris GTS users on various platforms and many users were satisfied with the ability of the watch to measure Temperature. Some users also voiced their concerns about the watch, but the number of them was lower.

If you ask me, I’d still recommend the Fitbit Sense as it uses an advanced sensor for this purpose, and considering the track record of Fitbit, we can expect more improvement in that feature as well. So, if you don’t want to take any chances, then Fitbit Sense is my first recommendation.

Does Fitbit Sense Measure Oxygen?

Fitbit won't turn on

Fitbit Sense is an advanced smartwatch, and it comes with the dedicated SPO2 sensor, which is there to calculate the oxygen saturation levels in your blood.

It’s a very handy feature that you can use to know if anything is wrong with your oxygen saturation, and you can get the medical help on time.

Conclusion

That’s all, folks. If you want a capable smartwatch that can detect your Temperature, then Fitbit Sense is an ideal option for you. Ticwris GTS is also a decent option for you if you want a simple smartwatch with basic features. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask me in the comment section below.
